Wilhelm Weber. Portrait of Wilhelm Eduard Weber (1804-91),German physicist. Weber worked on wave motion with his brother,Ernst, and studied the mechanics of walking with his other brother,Eduard. However,Weber worked most with K.F. Gauss. In 1833 whilst cooperating on geomagnetism, they built the first practical telegraph system between their laboratories. Weber invented an electrodynameter for measuring electric current, developed a mirror galvanometer and proposed a system of electric units. With Kohlrausch,Weber determined that the ratio between electrostatic and electrodynamic units of charge was equal to the speed of light | |
