Tom Van Sant (b. 1931),American artist & creator of the Geosphere Project. Van Sant is seen in his studio in Santa Monica,California,in front of a computer monitor on which is displayed one of the images from the Geosphere Project. The Project,started in 1989,has made the first cloud-free satellite image of Earth,an accurate electronic mosaic built up on a graphics supercomputer from thousands of images taken by the Tiros series of weather satellites. Van Sant has also produced a 2.1-metre diameter globe from the Geosphere image,& plans to use it for educational & environmental purposes
