Nicolaas Tulp (1593-1674),Dutch doctor. In 1641,Tulp described the disease beriberi,a deficiency of Vitamin B1 (Thiamin). He is credited with curing Rembrandt of the delusion that his bones where turning to jelly,by counselling and suggestion. Tulp was famously pictured in Rembrant's 1632 painting The Anatomy Lesson,as the central doctor dissecting a man's arm.
