Daguerrotype made in 1844 of the English inventor and photography pioneer William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877). Talbot began his work on photography in 1834 without knowing that the French inventor Daguerre was carrying out similar research. Although the process devised by Daguerre, the daguerrotype,is considered to be the original,Talbot is often portrayed as the father of modern photography. In fact he devised a process known as calotype in which for the first time a photographic negative was used to obtain positive prints on paper. In 1844 he published the first book illustrated with photographs | |
