Nicholas Saunderson (1682-1739),English mathematician. Blinded by smallpox at about a year old,Saunderson overcame his disability to study mathematics at Cambridge University. In 1711,he became the fourth Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1718.
