Andrzej Wiktor Schally (born 1926),Polish endocrinologist and Nobel laureate,also known as Andrew Schally. Born in Poland,Schally is of Polish,Austro-Hungarian,French and Swedish ancestry. He was educated in the UK. and then worked in the UK,Canada and the USA,becoming a US citizen in 1962. Schally shared the 1977 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Roger Guillemin and Rosalyn Yalow. The share of the Nobel was awarded for Schally's work on peptide hormone production,in particular luteinising hormone,follicle-stimulating hormone and gonadotrophin-releasing hormone.
