Bryan Sykes. Portrait of Dr Bryan Sykes,head of research at Oxford University into the genetics of Otzi,the Stone Age "Ice Man". In the foreground is an autoradiograph (genetic fingerprint) obtained from the mitochondrial DNA of the Ice Man. From this work Sykes has found that millions of present day Europeans are genetically related to the Ice Man,who lived some 5000 years ago. His well-preserved frozen body was discovered in an Alpine Glacier in Austria in 1991. He is the best preserved Neolithic human known.
