Fritz Pregl. Portrait of Fritz Pregl (1869-1930),Austrian-Slovenian chemist who made possible the study of biochemistry. Pregl found that traditional methods of analysis were useless for the minute quantities of chemicals required for the study of biochemistry. Pregl invented new procedures and equipment to perform microanalysis, including a balance which could weigh with an accuracy of 0.001 milligrams. With these achievements, biochemistry advanced rapidly as a science and Pregl was awarded the 1923 Nobel Prize for chemistry | |
