Reverend Robert Main (1808-1878),British astronomer. Main,educated in mathematics,was also an ordained Anglican priest. He made major contributions to several star catalogues. He was Chief Assistant at the Royal Greenwich Observatory (1835-1860),President of the Royal Astronomical Society (1859-1861),and Radcliffe Observer at the University of Oxford (1860-1878) He was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1858.
