Professor Alan Moody, designer of the magnetic resonance direct thrombus imaging (MRDTI) technique. MRDTI is used to detect blood clots (thrombi) in deep vein thrombosis (DVT),which can develop during long journeys in cramped conditions. It is non-invasive,quick and accurate, and may be more sensitive than ultrasound scans or venography, meaning that symptomless clots can be detected. MRDTI also reveals clots in pregnant women without the use of X-rays. A blood clot may move to the lungs or brain, causing pulmonary embolism or a stroke. MRDTI was developed by Moody and his team at the University of Nottingham,UK | |
