Portrait of Robert Koch,German bacteriologist,who together with Louis Pasteur,is considered as the founder of modern medical bacteriology. Koch was born in 1843 and died in 1910. His techniques for cultivating bacteria both in liquid and solid media & his use of stains,enabled him to study the life cycles of bacteria in laboratory conditions. As a result he was able to isolate the specific bacteria responsible for certain diseases.
