William Hunter. Engraving of William Hunter (1718-83),British anatomist and obstetrician. Hunter studied medicine at Edinburgh University and moved to London in 1740. He specialised in obstetrics and attended members of the British royal family. He published a collation of his work The Anatomy of the Human Gravid Uterus in 1774 which contains detailed engravings of dissections. Hunter introduced dissection of cadavers for students and founded the Great Windmill Street School of Anatomy in Glasgow.
