Robert Esnault-Pelterie (1881-1957),French engineer. Esnault-Pelterie was a pioneering aircraft designer,as well as a theorist on space flight. He developed the aileron,a crucial aircraft control mechanism. His first powered flight was in September 1906. By 1908,the Pelterie II was setting record flight lengths,and it was flown at the first international air meeting in Reims,France.
