Craig Eldershaw holding a snake robot. Dr Eldershaw worked on the modular robotics team while undertaking his PhD at the University of Oxford,England. He is now part of the team that is programming the high-level motion planning software. He is holding a prototype (G2) modular robot (PolyBot). PolyBots are made from a number of self-contained modules,each having its own on-board computer,infrared sensor,power supply & motor. When modules are connected together,they are able to move as a whole. Commercial uses could include search and rescue. PolyBots are being developed at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC),USA.
