Jean-Martin Charcot (1825-1893) was a French neurologist. He is considered to be the founder of modern neurology. In 1862,he was appointed to the Salpetriere Hospital,Paris,France,later founding its famous neurological clinic. Charcot used observation and autopsies to identify several diseases of the nervous and muscular systems (Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and Charcot's disease are examples).
