This entry,dated 10 March 1876,describes his first successful experiment with his new invention,the 'telephone'. The diagram shows the construction of the transmitter,linked to a battery and the receiver solenoid 'S'. The first message passed on the equipment was to his assistant - it was "Mr. Watson,come here,I want to see you. " Bell went on to found the world's first telephone company,now known as AT&T.
