Architectural restoration. Architects carrying out restoration work on the Chapel of the Holy Shroud in Turin,Italy. This chapel,built from 1668 to 1694,houses the famous Turin Shroud,said to be the burial shroud of Jesus Christ. The dome of the chapel is here encased in scaffolding,needed to support it following a fire in 1997. The restoration work,which had been taking place since 1990,has involved testing the quality of the stone used,polishing and cleaning the stone,and carrying out repairs where needed |
