Art restoration. Art restorer examining part of a 16th-century artwork using an ultraviolet light to detect previous restoration work. This is the head of one of the saints in the artwork La Pala del Savoldo, commissioned in 1524 from the Italian Renaissance painter Giovanni Girolamo Savoldo (1480-1548). Included in the painting are the saints Peter,Dominic,Paul and Jerome,as well as the Madonna and Child, and also angels. The large (5-metre-tall) and heavy,paint-on-wood,artwork is mounted in a restoration framework so it can be carefully moved and accessed by raised platforms, but still kept on display at the Pinacoteca di Brera museum,Milan,Italy.
