| Residues of the world's oldest wine. Pottery jar fragment with residues (black) of the world's oldest wine. The fragment has been labelled by the archaeologists who found it. The fragment came from one of six jars found at Hajji Firuz Tepe,Iran,in the kitchen of a 7000-year-old mudbrick building. Different chemical tests on this fragment at the University of Pennsylvania Museum revealed evidence of tartaric acid,a substance found in large quantities in grapes in another jar.
