Odour fingerprints from the electronic NOSE. The NOSE (Neotronics Olfactory Sensing Equipment) is a device designed to give an objective analysis of complex vapours. The data gathered is shown in offset polar plot form. Each of these represents a different odour; (clockwise from top left) rose petals, red wine, tobacco and meat. The plots show the responses of the device's twelve sensors to the odours present; the circle indicates a zero response, triangles outside the circle have a positive value, inside have a negative value. The NOSE may be used in a variety of quality control applications, especially in the food, beverage, fragrance and tobacco industries | |
