Scanning electron micrograph (SEM),coloured gold,of the hooked surface of a hooks and loops fastener. A common fastener,it is made of a nylon material manufactured in two separate pieces,one with a surface consisting of loops,the other with a surface of hooks (shown here) which catch in the loops & fasten the two pieces together. The loops are loosely woven strands in an otherwise tight weave; the hooked surface is made by cutting the loops. Magnification: X 8 at 35mm size
