| HeLa cell. Immunofluorescent light micrograph of cultured HeLa cancer cells. The nucleus of each cell is stained blue. Tiny green grains are stained heat shock protein,hsp70. This protein,produced by the cell as a defence against heat shock,is found throughout the cell. Bright pink grains within the nucleus are bak proteins,which are associated with cell death. HeLa cells are the first human cell line,obtained from the cervix of Henrietta Lacks who had cervical cancer. HeLa cells are used in research throughout the world.
