Muscle physiology research. Researcher making notes, with sample vials at right. The vials contain DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) samples (clear vials) and buffer enzymes (three coloured vials) used for the purification of DNA. These enzymes are labelled A,B and H,and form an ABH buffer system for systematic DNA purification. This work is being carried out at Dundee University,Scotland,as part of research into the physiology, genetics and biochemistry of mammalian muscles. The aim is to study the genetic control of biochemical reactions that increase muscle mass following resistance exercise. This could lead to genetic or pharmacological methods for increasing muscle mass. This research, ongoing as of 2006,is being carried out by Dr Keith Barr and colleagues in the functional molecular biology laboratory | |
