Plant molecular farming. ELISA test (Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay) to analyse for human proteins produced by transgenic oil-seed rape plants. Rape,Brassica napus,is among the first genetically manipulated plants to produce human protein. Here, vials of plant extract are tested for antibodies to human proteins. A colour change at the base of the vials indicates the proteins. Brassica napus is naturally a high protein producer. By inserting human genes into its DNA,this plant may produce such human proteins as blood albumin and gastric lipase, which may be used to treat people with hereditary and other disorders.
