Medieval stone coffin in a chapel graveyard. Burials in stone coffins were usually reserved for nobility or priests. A stone lid (not seen) would have covered the body. The lids were often reused at a later date, sometimes being found upside down and forming part of a stone floor. Photographed in Lincolnshire,UK | |
