It was founded in 1899 as a supply depot for the Ugandan Railway and grew rapidly,becoming the capital of British East Africa in 1907 and the capital of the newly independent Kenya in 1963. At top centre to right is the Nairobi River. At bottom right is the railway station,depot and Nairobi's industrial centre.
