Millennium Dome and Canary Wharf at dusk,London,England. The Millennium Dome (centre) was built for the Millennium celebrations in 2000. It is 320 metres wide,50 metres tall (at the central point) and has a 1-kilometre circumference. The dome is supported by cables running from 12 massive pylons (100 metres long),and the dome material is made of teflon-coated glass fibre. It was designed by architects Richard Rogers Partnership. This view looks west from Greenwich towards the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf (lower left). Built in the 1980s and early 1990s,they include the tallest building in London (244 metres,as of 2004).
