Hound Tor on Dartmoor in Devon,England. Tors are outcrops or stacks of rock rising from a smooth hilltop or slope. Most of the tors in south-west England are of granite,a well-jointed igneous rock. Tors are formed by differential weathering of rock. Where there are many joints, the rock weathers and is eroded faster than where there are few joints. The rocks which remain and form the tor are known as corestones. Moors are upland habitats, usually covered with heather, small shrubs and acidic grasses | |
