White lake (Lago bianco) in the Bernina Pass,Grisons,Switzerland. The light colour of the lake is due to the high amount of sediment in suspension in the water. This is due to it being fed by meltwater from the Cambrena glacier, which is rich in sediment. White lake is dammed and controlled by the Brusio hydroelectric power station. The lake also marks the watershed between the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea. Water from this lake drains into the Adriatic through the Poschiavino river. Water from the adjacent Black lake (Lej nair) drains to the Black Sea through the Engadine valley | |
