Frost-shattered rocks atop the peak of Glyder Fach in Snowdonia National Park,Wales,UK. These rocks form part of the erosion feature known as Castell y Gwynt (Castle of the Winds),which lies on the summit of the Fach peak (994 metres) of the Glyder ridge. In the cold mountain climate, the water freezing in cracks in the rocks has expanded and caused the rocks to crack and break apart. The summit of Mount Snowden (Yr Wyddfa,1085 metres) is in the background at centre left. It is the highest peak in England and Wales. The closer peak (just right of Snowden) is the summit of Glyder Fawr (999 metres) | |
