Petroglyphs on a rock face in the Puerco Ruin area of the Petrified Forest National Park,Arizona USA. Petroglyphs are figures carved into stones using primitive chisels. Those seen here are thought to have been made by Native Americans ('Indians') around 1,000 years ago. It is thought that such petroglyphs were used to record events in tribal or clan history,or were made at sites of religious significance. The petroglyph on the right of this scene has been interpreted as a representation of the supernova visible in 1052 AD | |
