Maiasaura dinosaur. Artwork of a Maiasaura dinosaur,a type of herbivorous duck-billed dinosaur (hadrosaur). It is standing by a dead Maiasaura skeleton and looking at the predator tracks that lead into a nearby forest. Maiasaura grew up to 9 metres long and could walk on two legs or four. Hadrosaurs used their bill to bite leaves and twigs from trees, chewing them with the hundreds of teeth they had in each jaw. Maiasaura "good mother reptile") got its name as fossils of eggs and infants have been found in nesting colonies, suggesting that the adults actively looked after their young. Hadrosaurs lived 100-65 million years ago,in the Cretaceous period | |
