Biggest dinosaur,Argentinosaurus. Illustration of the skeleton of Argentinosaurus huinculensis - the biggest dinosaur discovered to date - with bones found shown in brown. A human group drawn to scale shows size. Argentinosaurus's 100-million-year-old remains were found in the late 1980s at Plaza Huincul,Argentina,by palaeontologists Rodolfo Coria and Jose Bonaparte. Comparisons with similar fossils suggest the animal may have weighed 80-100 tonnes, outweighing all known dinosaurs. At only 30 metres from head to tail, however,it was not the longest. Argentinosaurus was a long-necked vegetarian that lived half under water to support its colossal weight. Drawn in 1985 | |
