Fossil amphibian footprint. Footprint made by a paleozoic amphibian, probably of the genus Dimetrodon. These creatures roamed coastal regions in the Lower Permian period about 280 million years before present. Such footprints were made in soft mud which then baked solid in subsequent drought. Wind-blown sediments then filled the prints, preserving them from following waterborne sediments. This example was found in the Robledo Mountains region of New Mexico,USA | |
