| Tollund Man. Mummified head of Tollund Man,a "bog body" dated 220-40 BC. This most well-preserved body of an adult man was discovered in 1950 in a bog at Tollund Mose in Jutland,Denmark. About 30- 40 years of age,1.6m in height,he has beard stubble and a tranquil expression. Naked except for a leather cap and belt,he died by being hanged using a braided leather noose. Analysis of his stomach shows his last meal was a gruel of barley and wild seeds. Many ancient bog bodies of northwest Europe met violent deaths by murder or religious sacrifice.
