Femurs of Homo habilis,OH 8. Thigh bones from the specimen OH 8 found at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, which are consistent with bipedal locomotion. Bipedalism, walking upright on two legs, has a number of adaptive advantages and has evolved independently in a number of lineages. Although Homo habilis had a relatively small brain, skeletal remains suggest it had a large body size. The species had a wide distribution in Africa, living between 2.0 and 1.6 million years ago | |
