Neanderthal skull reconstructed. Three-dimensional Computed Tomography (CT) scan of reconstructed skull bones of a Neanderthal child aged 3-4. The skull was found at Devil's Tower,Gibraltar,in 1926. Real bones found appear pale green; the middle ear bone (dark green) may belong to another skull; bones reconstructed by computer are blue, including molar teeth. This technique enables the fossil to be viewed from different angles, fitted and pieced together, restored and measured. The computer reconstructs missing parts from existing bone and teeth.
