Fossilised bone,Gran Dolina. Piece of fossilised human bone with cut marks on the surface, found in level TD6 of the Gran Dolina site. These marks are thought to have been made by stone tools used by humans when removing flesh from cadavers during cannibalistic acts. Identical marks can be seen on many of the animal fossils recovered from level TD6. Gran Dolina is one of several archaeological sites in Sierra de Atapuerca,Spain, that have been studied on and off over the past century, leading to a massive advancement in the understanding of human evolution. In 2000,Sierra de Atapuerca was made a world heritage site by UNESCO | |
