Stone tools. Ancient palaeolithic stone hand axes from the hominid (early human) Acheulean culture. These multi-purpose tools are thought to have been used for a wide range of tasks, from butchering animals to carving wood. The tools of the Acheulean culture were advanced compared to other hominid tools of the time, and are thought to have been made by the early human species Homo erectus, and by early Homo sapiens peoples. Acheulean tools were manufactured over a period that lasted from 1.5 million to 200,000 years ago. These axes were found in the Olduvai Gorge,Tanzania,Africa | |
