Vertical rock strata at a beach. These strata comprise sedimentary rocks, which were laid down as horizontal beds. Powerful geological forces later uplifted the beds to this vertical position, and the layers were revealed by the sea eroding the surrounding rocks. These strata were laid down in the Aptian stage in the early Cretaceous period, between 125 and 112 million years ago. Photographed at Praia Grande,Portugal | |
