Mount Jefferson volcano,Oregon,USA,forming a backdrop to fields of freshly harvested hay. The cone of this stratovolcano rises over a kilometre above the surrounding plains,reaching a height of 3199 metres above sea level. Several glaciers flow down its snow-clad sides. The volcano is part of the Cascades mountain range,and was named after US President Thomas Jefferson by the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806).
