Volcanoes,Chile,satellite image. Many volcanic peaks are dotted about this landscape,with the rock geology and age indicated by the variation in the colours. The volcanoes are currently dormant,but lie on top of,and created,a layer of igneous rock,about 3.5 kilometres thick,that covers this area. They lie on the Chile-Argentina border,next to Catamarca Province,Argentina.
