Glacial icefall. Glacial icefalls occur when a glacier moves down a steep slope. They feature numerous crevasses and unstable pinnacles of ice (lower frame). The ice pinnacles,or seracs, are created when the crevasses that develop after an icefall intersect. Photographed on the Franz- Josef Glacier,New Zealand | |
