Hurricane Charley moved inland and hit Port Charlotte on 13 August 2004. At the time it hit,it was classified as a category 4 hurricane,with winds of 233 kilometres per hour (kph). The winds killed 10 people,destroyed buildings,brought down power lines and caused 3 metre high waves that flooded the area. Charley continued inland,weakening,but sustaining winds at 160 kph before dissipating on 15 August |
