An unsual view of the Earth showing the shadow of the Moon during the total solar eclipse which occurred on July 11th 1991. It is the result of four exposures taken by the GOES-7 weather satellite at an interval of 60 minutes. They were combined and superimposed onto a global view of the Earth taken by the same satellite on the same day. The shadow of the Moon runs from South America (bottom right) through Central America towards the Pacific Ocean at top left. North America is clearly visible at top centre partly masked by clouds whereas the Pacific coast of South America is seen at bottom right | |
