This attack is against the Botocudo of eastern Minas Gerais and southern Bahia. Rugendas describes the attack ' They hunt the indians wherever they find them. They seek if possible to suprise them at their encampments. Suprised in this way the savages attempt to escape by fleeing. As a rule the soldiers massacre all who fall into their hands. Only rarely do they spare the women and children." | |
