This was the grand house of Boucher De Perthes, where he displayed his collection of antiquities including the palaeolithic stone tools that made him famous. Boucher de Perthes made the case that the stone tools he excavated near this home near Abeville provided strong evidence for human coexistance with extinct animals of the drift - the ice age. This extended the evidence for human antiquity far before Bishop Usher's celebrated biblical 4004BC. He was director of the customs office at Abbeville, and inherited enough money to work as an amateur archaeologist in his free time | |
