Fluid shift research. A researcher using an ultrasound machine to measure intracranial pressure during fluid shift research. In the microgravity of space, fluids shift to the upper body and can cause various physiological changes, including disturbances of vision. NASA is testing non-invasive techniques to monitor fluid shift,as well as investigating use of Russian Lower Body Negative Pressure (LBNP) or Chibis suits, which could help shift fluids from the upper body to the lower body. This research is aimed at improving the human body's health and performance in long-duration space flight. Photographed 24th March 2015 | |
