Crew members on Terra Nova. Crew members on the deck of the Terra Nova in 1912 during one of the journeys it made as part of the British Antarctic Expedition (1910-1913). Also known as the Terra Nova Expedition,the primary expedition objectives were scientific. After landing in January 1911,a shore party of 33,led by Robert Falcon Scott,spent two seasons exploring on and around the Ross Ice Shelf. The ship's party of 32 carried out oceanographic research and transported supplies for the shore party. Scott and four others died in 1912 returning from the South Pole.
