Russell Hulse (born 1950),US astrophysicist. Hulse shared the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physics with his supervisor Joseph Hooton Taylor for their discovery of a new type of pulsar (star). In 1974,Hulse and Taylor discovered the binary pulsar PSR B1913+16,which is made up of a pulsar and black companion star. They then used this star to test Einstein's theory of general relativity and demonstrate the existence of gravitational radiation.
